WATER SUPPLY: HYDROLOGICAL CYCLE
Instructions: Identify the correct sequence of the hydrological process by labelling its correct
stages 1- 5. In the diagram column, draw the description of the hydrological process.
Stages
Hydrological process
Water vapour rises in the
atmosphere and cools. At cooler
temperatures,
water
vapour
becomes water droplets through
the process of condensation.
Water that falls onto the group may
seep into the soil in a process
called infiltration. Water that
infiltrates deep into the ground and
becomes contained in the soil and
underlying
rocks
becomes
groundwater.
Water that is not absorbed into the
ground flows over the earth’s
surface, down hills and mountains
and into rivers, lakes and seas.
This water is known as surface
runoff.
Heat from the sun causes water
from lakes, rivers, oceans and the
surface layers of soil to change to
water vapour. This process is
called evaporation. Plants also
give out water vapour through their
leaves in a process known as
transpiration.
Water droplets gather together to
form clouds. When more water
droplets gather, the cloud gets too
heavy. Water will fall back to the
earth’s surface in the process
called precipitation. Precipitation
includes all forms of water such as
rain and snow.
