Kid Wind Design Challenge http://challenge.kidwind.org/online Designed By: Gerald, Cameron, JD. Team Name: The One-Legged Flamingo 5-8 Coaches Name: Mr. Sean Murray Email Address: [email protected] Clarence Middle School Our Team Tell us about your team: We are a team of three sixth graders from Clarence Middle School. We are attempting to generate the most electricity using our wind turbines. We turned mechanical energy (wind) into electrical energy. The goal of this whole shebang is to generate electricity without burning fossil fuels. Design Brief Problem Statement (What is the problem that your teacher has given you to solve?): The problem is that we are burning to many fossil fuels which releases to many carbon dioxide. (greenhouse gases) This is environmentally unfriendly. Design Statement (How are you going to solve this problem? Include the process you are going to take to solve the given problem) : We are going to design wind turbines to generate electricity so we don’t have to burn as much fossil fuels. Design Brief Constraints (What you can and cannot do/use.): • No metal blades. • Weight constraint. • Foam core board, balsa wood, Styrofoam, cardboard, etc… • Length constraint • 18-20 inches maximum length • Dowels could be used. • Width constraint. • Originally no hot glue(that changed) Deliverables (What materials and items you need to solve this problem) • We had to create three different drawings of our wings. • We needed foam core board, dowels, plastic hub, Kid Wind wind towers, voltage meter, fans, tape measure.
