Radiology Goals and Objectives of Radiology Rotation To provide the residents with a structured opportunity to learn the appropriate application of techniques and specialty consultations in the diagnostic imaging of organs and body systems (MK, ICS, P, PBL) The Family Practice Resident should demonstrate knowledge of: A. Chest radiographs 1. Discuss the indications for chest radiographs. 2. Discuss the principles of interpretation of chest radiographs. B. Bone radiographs 1. Discuss the indications for bone radiographs. 2. Discuss the principles of interpretation of bone radiographs (especially trauma). C. Abdominal radiographs 1. Discuss the indications for abdominal radiographs. 2. Discuss the principles of interpretation of abdominal radiography. 3. Discuss the indications, techniques, risks, and limitations of the following procedures and the patient preparation necessary for each: a. Upper GI. b. Lower GI. c. Gallbladder imaging. d. Discuss the indications, techniques, risks, and limitations of mammography. D. Discuss the indications, techniques, risks, and limitations of: 1. Computerized tomography 2. Magnetic resonance imaging 3. Ultrasound 4. Arteriography 5. Venography E. Discuss basic elements of establishing and maintaining medical office X-ray equipment to include: 1. Limitations, shielding, wiring requirements. 2. References for patient positioning, doses and risks, grids, films, and processors. 3. Protecting the pregnant patient. 4. Certification and technician training
