MUTATIONS
• Mutations cause a change in an organism’s
DNA.
• 2 types are classified: point mutation and
frameshift mutation.
– Point mutations: 1 nucleotide is substituted for
another.
• Often times a point mutation can be silent.
– Frameshift mutations: involves insertion or
deletion of a nucleotide.
Frameshift Mutations
• Frameshift mutations can cause more
problems to a protein than point mutations.
• The entire sequence is changed
