Two Types of Location • Absolute • Relative Absolute Location • A specific place on the Earth’s surface • Uses a grid system– latitude & longitude • A global address North Carolina: Absolute Location • North Carolina 36° N 79° W • Kannapolis 35°, 49’ N 80°, 61’ W Relative Location • Where a place is in relation to another place • Uses directional words to describe – Cardinal and intermediate directions North Carolina: Relative Location • North Carolina is bordered by Virginia to the north, South Carolina to the south, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and Tennessee to the west. • North Carolina is in the geographic east of the contiguous United States. • North Carolina is a Southern state.
