Electrical heat tracing equipment shall be suitable for usage in zone 1.
Performance Requirements
Heating equipment that will undergo periodic steam cleaning shall have a minimum withstand
temperature above the steam temperature, for a cumulative exposure time of at least 1000 hours, with
power ON.
Heat density of the heating elements shall be such the temperature limits for pipe, heaters or product are
not exceeded.
Power Supply, Distribution and Control of Heating Circuits
For power distribution, local heat tracing panels shall be located in the field (in classified area) close to
the heat tracing load. These field distribution panels shall receive power at 380V by 2 power cables from
PURCHASER’s 380V MCC located in the nearby substation.
Maximum width of local heat tracing panels shall not exceed 5 meters. Where necessary a back-to-back
layout has to be taken into account.
Self-limiting heating circuits for winterization heat tracing shall be controlled by PASC or similar
controllers.
Heating circuits with polymer insulated, mineral insulated and constant wattage heating cables shall be
controlled by local field controller/limiters.
Voltage drop of the supply cable (from substation distribution board to the most distant heat tracing cable
connection box) shall not exceed 5.5% at the full load condition.
Local Heat Tracing Distribution Panels
LHTDPs shall be equipped with an earth bar to which shall be connected the grounding conductor of the
incoming supply cable and of all outgoing cables.
Each panel consists of 2 incoming circuit breakers with interlock and ATS and up to 84 outgoing circuits
(nos as per requirement), equipped with RCBO (2 pole type and tripping contact).
