Determine the gross pay for each of the following workers. After determining the gross pay for
each, create a chart in MS Excel or Google Spreadsheet (based on the example provided) and
transfer your answers to that chart. Using the chart and the information provided in my
example, determine each employee’s net pay.
1. Brittain Inc. has just been taken over by Rowland Corp. All employees will now be paid
weekly. Convert each of the following pay periods to weekly:

Dave Debusschere – @2,250 semi-monthly
Willis Reed – $34,550 annually
2. Production workers at Rowland Corp. are paid on an hourly basis and/or a piecework basis.
Determine the gross pay for the following workers:
a. Phil Jackson – 40 hours @ $8.41/hr plus 17 cents for each piece over 1,000.
i. Last week Phil produced 1,216 pieces
b. Jerry Lucas – 38 hours @ $13.67/hr plus 28 cents for each piece over 400.
i. Last week Jerry produced 619 pieces
3. Interior Maintenance workers are paid on the basis of a 40 hour workweek with time and a
half for all time over 40 hours in a week. Determine the gross pay for the following workers:
a. Earl Monroe – 44 hours, regular rate of $9.80/hr
b. Dick Barnett – 52 hours, regular rate of $10.78/hr
c. Henry Bibby – 46 hours, regular rate of $11.08/hr
4. Outdoor Maintenance workers are paid on the basis of an eight hour workday with time
and a half for all time over 8 hours on any day. Working Sundays pays double-time.
Determine the gross pay for the following workers:
a. Dean Meminger – worked Mon thru Fri last week with the following hours: 8, 9, 9,
10, 6. Regular pay rate = $9.40/hr
b. John Gianelli – worked Mon thru Fri last week with the following hours: 9, 7, 10, 0, 8.
He worked 5 hours on Sunday. Regular pay rate = $12.10/hr

5. Telemarketers are paid salary plus a commission on all sales over $1,000. Determine the
gross pay for the following workers:
a. Luther Rackley – $200 a week, 25% commission rate, sales of $3,400
b. Tom Riker - $150 a week, 5% commission rate, sales of $11,270
6. Outside sales people work on a graduated commission scale. They earn 2% of the first
$10,000, 5% of the next $5,000, and 7% of all sales over $15,000. Listed below is the outside
sales force and their sales. Determine the gross pay:
a. Harthorne Wingo - $12,630 in sales
b. Cazzie Russell - $28,500 in sales
c. Red Holzman - $21,410 in sales
