EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
COMMUNICATION
• Communication is simply the act of
transferring information from one place to
another.
• Although this is a simple definition, when we
think about how we may communicate the
subject becomes a lot more complex.
• There are various categories of
communication and more than one may occur
at any time
CATEGORIES OF COMMUNICATION
• Spoken or verbal communication: face to face
communication, telephone, Radio or television,
and any other media
• Non-verbal communication: body language,
gestures, how we dress or act (even our scent)
• Written communication: letters, emails, books,
magazines, the internet or via other media
• Visualization: graphs and charts, maps, logos, and
other visualizations can communicate messages
COMMUNICATION PROCESS
• A message or communication is
sent by the sender through a
communication channel to a
receiver or to multiple receivers
• The sender must encode the
message(the information being
conveyed)into a form that is
appropriate to the communication
channel and receivers
• Misunderstanding can occur at any
stage of communication process
• Effective communication involves
minimising potential
misunderstanding and overcoming
any barriers of communication at
each stage in the communication
process

COMMUNICATION PROCESS
ELEMENTS OF COMMUNICATION
• There are seven major elements of
communication process they are
• Sender
• Ideas
• Encoding
• Communication channel
• Receiver
• Decoding
• Feedback
• The communication process is dynamic in nature
rather than a static phenomenon
SENDER
• The person who intends to convey the
message with the intention of passing
information and ideas to other is know as the
sender or communicator
IDEAS
• This is the subject matter of the
communication. This may be an opinion,
attitude, feelings, views, orders, or
suggestions
ENCODING
• Since the subject matter of the
communication is theoretical and intangible ,
its further passing requires use of certain
symbols such as words, actions or pictures etc.
conversions of subject matter into these
symbols is the process of encoding
Communication channel
• The person who is interested in
communicating has to choose the channel for
sending the required information ,ideas etc .
This information is transmitted to the receiver
through certain channels which may be either
formal or informal.
RECEIVER
• Receiver is the person who receives the
message or for whom the message is meant
for. It is the receiver who tries to understand
the message in the best possible manner in
achieving the desired objectives
DECODING
• The person who receives the message or
symbol from the convert tries to convert the
same in such a way so that he may extract its
meaning to his complete understanding
FEEDBACK
• Feedback the is the process of ensuring that
the receiver has the message and understood
in the same sense as sender meant it.
HOW TO START A CONVERSATION
• Did you know that speaking is often rated the
number one thing people are afraid of? But
while getting up on a stage in front of an
audience can definitely be nerve wracking,
many people find striking up a conversation
one-on-one just as intimidating.
TRY THESE CONVERSATION STARTERS
TO TALK TO ABSOLUTELY ANYBODY
• Skip the small talk. “what's up with this
weather?” and “how about them {insert local
sports teams }?” are as bad as pick up lines
when it comes to starting a conversation.
Avoid tired topics.every situation is unique, so
you should be able to find a unique
conversation starter

IMPORTANCE OF BODY LANGUAGE
• Body language is part of communication that
very few actually study yet it makes up most
of what we use to communicate and is
generally much more accurate a judge of
meaning than are the words we use.
• I’m going to share some reasons why body
languages is so important and give you a very
short quiz to take to see how well you
understand its meaning
Here are some of the importance of
body language
• They say actions speak louder than words and sometimes
we can communicate things even without the aid of a
single word
• Some things we say with our bodies can helps us reinforce
why we are saying it.
• Furthermore, paying attention to someone body language
can helps us discerb when someone is not telling us the
whole truth and nothing but the truth
• Additionally, foot tapping or bouncing, blushng, putting
their hand to their face, turning away or raising their
shouders may all be indicators that they are uncomfortable
with the conversation because they are not telling the truth
Try these questions out……………
• What does it mean when someone put their
palm to their chest?
• What does it mean when someone rubs their
nose?
• What message is being sent when someone
looks over their glasses at someone ?
• What does it convey when a person looks up
and to the right before they speak?

which can be adapted to various speaking
situations, such as talking to a group,
