Electron – tiny particle of matter that has a negative charge. electron Atom Electric Energy (Electricity) – energy made up of moving electrons. Anything that uses a battery or gets plugged in uses electric energy! Examples: Electric current – the movement of electron along a wire Battery – a package of chemicals that produces and stores energy. Examples: + - Circuit – a pathway for electricity to flow around. Volt – the force that pushes electricity. (higher the force = higher voltage) Ampere – the speed of electrical current. Resistance – opposition to the flow of electricity. (Slows it down.) Conductor – any material that allows electricity to flow freely through it easily. Examples: Insulator – any material that does not allow electricity to flow through it easily. Examples: Open Circuit – a circuit that has an opening, which prevents electricity from traveling through it. (It does not work!) Closed Circuit – a circuit that is complete, and allows electricity to travel through it. (It works!) Switch – a device that opens and closes a circuit. (Turns things on and off!)
