ED WORKPLACE VIOLENCE PROJECT PLAN: Reporting Feedback Mechanism Goal: A clearly defined reporting pathway from the occurrence of the violent incident to resolution will be in place; this communication pathway will include timely feedback to the victim of violence Short Term Goals: 1. Obtain written definitions of management, administration and risk management roles in the reporting process for violent occurrences. 2. Policy and procedures will be developed that outlines the use and tracking of the reporting tool including communication of disposition to all parties involved. 3. Identify the process of reporting occurrences of violence to law enforcement Action Items: 1. Work with staff members to achieve 100% reporting of violent occurrences; reinforce what constitutes a violent incident and teach staff use of established reporting tool 2. Meet with law enforcement representatives to discuss their role in reporting incidents per hospital policy; review policies in place and revise if necessary 3. Meet with management/administration/risk management to refine the reporting mechanism and establish clear path for tracking violent incident reports; identify the key person responsible for shepherding the process 4. Identify the role of the WPV in facilitating a clear path of reporting and feedback Expected Outcomes 1. Staff will feel confident that when violent occurrences are reported, there is adequate follow through and feedback. 2. Reporting incidents will increase as staff acknowledges the value of this documentation 3. Reporting to law enforcement will increase 4. Victims of violence will feed adequately informed of progress and follow up Date/Progress: Time/Date
