News Consistent User Experience and Innovative UC - Huawei eSpace UC Solution Abstract: After decades of development, technologies are no long the bottleneck of unified communications (UC). Diversified communication requirements promote the development of advanced applications and services, such as instant messaging (IM), voice over IP (VoIP), video-based services, and conferencing. However, these applications and services are carried in tools that differ from each other in graphical user interfaces (GUIs), functions, and designs, resulting in inconsistent user experience, inconvenient service utilization, and low customer satisfaction. Enterprise users have constantly-decreasing satisfaction for diversified communication tools, and are looking for new UC solutions that feature application integration and consistent user experience on different terminals. Huawei's eSpace UC solution leverages its customer-centric and experience-oriented design to offer innovative UC communication services. Based on the in-depth customer model analysis, Huawei proposed this new-generation UC solution that allows users to enjoy consistent GUIs and service experience on different terminals, along with easy-to-use applications that will come in handy. In addition to technical innovations, ICT vendors are focusing on user experience innovations to facilitate service expansion in the future. Keywords: UC, user experience, progressive communication, mobile video Consistent User Experience By integrating the innovative, user-centric design and unified software styles and GUIs, the eSpace UC solution brings superb and consistent user experience. This convenient and easy-to-use solution features multiple user-centric design principles, such as concise layouts, smooth interaction, and consistent service experience on PC, mobile phone, and tablet clients. The consistent style and GUI allow users to quickly master all skills and tips in using clients on other terminals once they have learned how to use the client on one terminal. Progressive Communication Smart phones allow users to flip fingers on a small screen to efficiently communicate with each other. Enterprise users need such convenient and smooth service experience in frequent and time-consuming internal communication. Huawei's eSpace UC solution supports the progressive communication that covers IM, VoIP, video, and convergent conferencing. Users can flip fingers to switch between different communication ways. By integrating multiple communication applications into a unified GUI, the solution substantially improves enterprises' internal communication efficiency. Instant Mobile Access to Video Conferences Most existing mobile communication systems provide only voice and SMS services. Users have growing requirements for video-based mobile communication that can deliver face-to-face communication experience. Facial expression, postures, and gestures allow more efficient communication, which is why video-based mobile communication is gaining increasing attention. Huawei's eSpace UC solution offers mobile video services that allow enterprise users to access networks using mainstream mobile devices (such as mobile phones and tablets) and 2017-5-9 Page 1 of 3 News network connection ports. With simple finger flipping, users can send instant messages, place audio and video calls, and hold convergent conferences (audio + video + data). The solution offers office-like communication experience and allows efficient mobile office. Convergent Conference for Improved Work Efficiency Telephone conferencing, HD video conferencing, and multimedia conferencing technologies meet a variety of meeting requirements and can, to some extent, improve conferencing efficiency. Customers are looking for new solutions to make full use of the existing advantages and leverage innovative technologies to enable more efficient communication in ever-complicated communication scenarios. Huawei's eSpace UC solution provides convergent conferencing capabilities to allow participants to join conferences anywhere, anytime, from diverse terminals, and conveniently manage conferences. Users can efficiently join conferences from homes, offices, or meeting rooms or when they are on trips. The solution unifies traditional meeting rooms (such as physical meeting rooms), telepresence meeting rooms, virtual telephone meeting rooms, and virtual multimedia meeting rooms into a comprehensive conferencing system. Participants can enjoy consistent service experience anywhere using diversified terminals. Multimedia Sharing Though allowing remote conferencing services, traditional conferences, such as telephone and video conferences, cannot effectively improve communication efficiency when conference topics are sophisticated. For conferences in which participants need to share raw data or materials, use whiteboards, or play video, traditional conferences cannot fully meet service requirements. Huawei eSpace UC solution provides multimedia conferencing capabilities, such as desktop sharing, file sharing, and media sharing. These capabilities can significantly improve conferencing effectiveness, raise communication efficiency, minimize misunderstanding possibilities, and boost the information transmission accuracy. Users can browse shared files in an asynchronous manner. For example, when the presenter is illustrating page 10, authorized participants can browse any page in the file, maximizing participants' initiative and allowing them to focus on the parts in which them are most interested. Desktop Linkage and Convenient Operation IP phones, unlike POTS phones that suffer difficult cabling and maintenance, introduce new services and apply to more scenarios. Since users are used to PC-based operation, ICT vendors are striving to develop solutions that can effectively integrate IP phones and PC desktops, leverage advantages of both types of terminals, and enable more convenient and efficient office collaboration. Huawei's eSpace UC solution supports desktop linkage, allowing IP phones to connect to PCs using two embedded GE network ports. The concurrent access of PC desktops and IP phones can simplify network cabling, leverage the advantages in PCs' large screen and IP phones' high-quality voice, and allow users to use desktop clients to perform assisted dialing, answering, and hanging for IP phones. A user can use a PC to query contact information from the corporate directory or personal address book and initiate a voice call to a contact. If the contact answers the call, the user can pick up the IP phone to start voice communication. This simplifies number dialing, avoiding complicated IP phone operation, and allowing the user to focus on more 2017-5-9 Page 2 of 3 News productive affairs. Most importantly, the user can still use the IP phone to communicate, which means the user's communication habit is not impacted, a typical example of user-centric design. Comprehensive Protection for Communication Security Huawei's eSpace UC solution provides security protection services that cover terminal access, communication services, management planes, and IP networks. The solution uses multiple security protection mechanisms, such as service authentication, message and file filtering, media interaction protocols, and encryption (transmission, storage, management protocols, and signaling). These state-of-the-art technologies provide effective information and communication security protection. Unified Management for Reduced TCO The diverse UC services and growing user number require more devices and software. Enterprise IT departments are facing challenges in system management. Huawei's eSpace UC solution provides end-to-end communication devices that cover terminals, access gateways, session control servers, application servers, and management servers. To address system management problems for enterprises, Huawei proposes the web-based service management and network element management systems to support single sign-on (SSO), allow unified service and device management, and lower enterprises' total cost of ownership (TCO). 2017-5-9 Page 3 of 3
