What is linguistics? Linguistics Minor Advisory Board: In its simplest sense, linguistics is the study of human language. It is a broad, interdisciplinary field, with exciting applications in disciplines ranging from advertising, law, and literature -- to education, speech pathology, and neuroscience -- to artificial intelligence, politics, and language teaching and learning. Along with guest lectures and film showings, BULL organizes TongueFest, an annual event celebrating linguistic diversity. LANGCULT 400: Comparative Language Studies: ASLTERP 225: Linguistics of ASL AUDSLP 152: Bloomsburg University Linguistics League (BULL): Students may petition other relevant courses (e.g., topics courses, independent study) to count toward the linguistics minor. The petitions will be reviewed by the executive committee. Some study abroad courses may also count toward the minor. We encourage students to take advantage of study abroad opportunities. Research Opportunities: Central and northeastern PA dialects are yet to be explored in depth by linguists. Therefore, there are numerous opportunities for researchers to contribute to our knowledge of variation in this area.
