The University of Alberta Infectious Diseases Division has a unique ability in Canada to provide this focused training. The rotation has now been made a mandatory 2 week rotation for ID SSR's and we have offered it as an elective to ID trainees in Canada (with 3 requests in the 4 months since established). The rotation includes: 7-8 half day clinics per week, 1-2 sessions with the nurses, 2 casebased interactive one on one teaching sessions with a faculty member, and 1 session focusing on virology (done by a virologist). A workbook to supplement education on topics that may be inadequately covered in a 2 week clinic block (e.g. pregnancy, acute HBV/HCV, management of cirrhosis). This is given to the resident at the start of the rotation to work on during and then reviewed and discussed with me at the end of the rotation. 2008 – 2009 Curriculum for Transplant Infectious Diseases Fellowship Full curriculum (objectives, specific descriptions of rotations, outpatient clinic schedule, educational and clinical rounds) developed. This is a unique training program in Canada. Our first fellow entered the program in September, 2008 and we have had 1 or 2 fellows each year since. Many of our trainees have gone on to academic positions and success documented by publications and awards. The curriculum document has served as one of the models to develop a suggested curriculum for training Transplant ID physicians through the American Society of Transplantation Infectious Diseases Community of Practice. 2008 – 2009 Revised objectives/format of Infectious Diseases/Medical Microbiology Journal Club and developed a template for article review and critical appraisal for the presenting residents. Revisions to the format of the journal club were made to re-focus the objectives on improving critical Revised: October 2015 22 appraisal and a basic understanding of statistics and epidemiologic methods. 2007 – 2008 Orientation Package: Transplant Infectious Diseases Rotation (for Infectious Diseases Subspecialty Residents) 2007 – 2008 Transplant Infectious Diseases Overview (handout) for rotating residents/students on Infectious Diseases consult service OTHER PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES Professional Development 2013-2014 Academic Leadership Development Program This is a comprehensive learning program sponsored by the Office of the Provost and VP (Academic) in partnership with the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, and Organizational Learning and Effectiveness. 2013 Department of Medicine Mentorship Workshop 2013 The Transplantation Society Education Academy World class leaders are engaged to provide a series of 12 webinars over the year on key topics in medical education. 10/2013 Canada GCP (Good Clinical Practices) Online course through NATRAC 10/2010 Teaching Enhancement Series Context and Learning Part 2 Centre for Teaching and Learning University of Alberta Teaching Enhancement Series Outcomes Centre for Teaching and Learning University of Alberta Teaching Enhancement Series Context and Learning Part 1 Centre for Teaching and Learning University of Alberta 09/2010 Teaching Enhancement Series Concept Mapping Centre for Teaching and Learning University of Alberta 09/2009 Investigator Training Program (ITP) Revised: October 2015 23 03/2008 Problem Based Learning Module For Discovery Learning Division of Studies in Medical Education University of Alberta 04/2007 Introductory Module Problem Based Learning Division of Studies in Medical Education University of Alberta 03/2007 Promotions Workshop Department of Medicine and Career Development Program University of Alberta 05/2005 Building Research Capacity Workshop Series: Applying for Grants Workshop Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry /HRS Staff Learning and Development/Research Services Office Formal Mentoring 2012-current - Dr. Stephanie Smith, Associate Professor Clinical Protocol Development The following protocols were developed to assist transplant physicians and coordinators in the clinical management of transplant recipients and to act as a learning tool for trainees in all areas of transplant medicine.
