V.K. Jayaraman, PhD.
Scientist Emeritus, CSIR, India.
Research experience of Dr. V.K. Jayaraman
Dr. Jayaraman has been with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India,
since 1976. He worked as a senior scientist in the chemical engineering division of the National
Chemical Laboratory(NCL), a constituent laboratory of the CSIR until his retirement in April
2009. Currently he is a CSIR Emeritus Scientist at the Center for Development of Advanced
Computing, Pune.
For the past ten years he has focused his research activities on the applications of artificial
intelligence and Machine Learning to process engineering, Chemo/Bioinformatics and
Biomedical Engineering domains. His specific interests are in applications evolutionary
computing and Kernel based methodologies wherein he has developed novel hybrid algorithms
combining ant colony optimization and Support Vector Machines (SVM) for simultaneous
classification and feature extraction. He has applied these algorithms for identification of
important protein and gene functions, identification of regimes of chemical & bioreactor
operations and for classification of Biomedical and Nadi (pulse) signals. He has published in
reputed journals like Oxford bioinformatics, Nucleic Acid research, Biotechnology Progress,
Combinatorial Chemistry & High throughput screening, chemical Engineering Science,
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research etc.
Visions to work for APBioNet.org
As his specializations are in Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning & Computational Biology,
he would like to use his expertise and experience in these areas to educate students in the bio
and chemo informatics domains. He would like to provide real life research problems with a
view to guiding students and enable them publishing in reputed journals. He will try to obtain
funding from agencies including ( APBIOnet) for conducting research with students from little
known institutes and aim to publish in highly reputed journals. He will strive to work with notfor-profit organizations like Bioclues.org and others for establishing an open access journal
affordable for publishing by researchers with funding constraints.
