Chinese Dynasties Timeline Activity
Purpose: In an effort to show you the length of China’s history … we are going to be creating a timeline and
labeling the 10 major Chinese Dynasties starting in the Year 1766 BC and ending at the fall of the last dynasty in
1912 AD.
 Step 1: Organize all the dates provided … See the attached sheet
 Step 2: Use the provided timeline to calculate your year intervals (2000BC-2200AD)
o To start:
 Use the calculation 1inch = 200 years … Yes, history Math
 Now, label your timeline … you should have twenty two labeled marks on your timeline
 Step 3: On the timeline organize and write your dates and the events … summarize the key events that go with
each date/dynasty
o Summarize the paragraph provided into 3 – 4 bullet points
 Step 4: Create a colored key for the timeline … give each dynasty its own color (Hint … You should have 10 colors)
 Step 5: Now just for fun and to compare … Add the following empires/items to your timeline –
o Give them a different color:
 Ancient Greece: 750 BC-200 BC
 Ancient Rome:509 BC – 476 AD
 Your Birth
 Step 6: Answer the questions below in complete sentences

compare these empires and the length of their histories?

5. On the back of your timeline complete the following task: Select a dynasty to research further on your
own. Tell/teach us 8-10 new facts or things about this dynasty. Be ready to share and teach your
classmates about your selected topic. You may add pictures and images too!
