PREOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS
Dear Patient,
Thank you for choosing Integrated Pain Consultants and Physicians Surgical Center for your pain management needs. Dr. Seth and his staff
look forward to providing you with the safest, most effective, and state-of-the-art treatment available. Please make sure to arrive 45
minutes at “Physicians Surgical Centert” and 15 minutes early to “Integrated Pain Consultants” prior to your scheduled procedure
time. Below are the Pre- Procedural Guidelines.
PLEASE READ THIS INSTRUCTION SHEET CAREFULLY AND IN ITS ENTIRETY
You may continue NSAIDs and Aspirin for ALL procedures. NSAIDs include Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Naproxen, Mobic,
Diclofenac, Meloxicam, lndocin, Celebrex.
You CAN and MUST continue blood thinners (unless otherwise directed) for any of the following procedures:
facet injections, medial branch blocks, RF ablation, sacroiliac joint, hip, shoulder, bursa and knee joint injections
You are REQUIRED to STOP the blood thinners listed below for:
EPIDURAL STEROID INJECTIONS, spinal cord stimulators, sympathetic blocks, and kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty
Prior to stopping your blood thinner, please speak with your prescribing physician and obtain clearance to STOP the medication for
the duration listed below. If the blood thinner you are on is not listed below, please speak with Dr. Seth for further information.

Other Medications - We encourage you to take all other medications the morning of the procedure, especially medications for
hypertension, diabetes, and pain.
We recommend that you wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing, that will not confine the procedural area.
PLEASE DO NOT WEAR JEWELRY. PLEASE LEAVE ANY VALUABLES AT HOME.
Sedation
Many patients will receive conscious sedation for their procedure in order to greatly reduce any procedure-related pain and anxiety,
unless otherwise requested. If you elect to have conscious sedation, then IT IS IMPORTANT TO COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING:
•
DO NOT EAT WITHIN EIGHT (8) hours of your scheduled procedure time.
•
You MAY drink sips of water or CLEAR fluid with your medications up to TWO (2) HOURS PRIOR to your procedure time
•
DO NOT chew gum, mints, hard candy, and DO NOT use tobacco products EIGHT HOURS PRIOR to your procedure time
•
OK to have black coffee TWO (2) HOURS PRIOR to your procedure time, but NO cream, milk, or sugar in your coffee.
•
If you are not receiving sedation, then you may eat a light meal.
Transportation
If you are having sedation, you are REQUIRED to have an adult (over 18 years of age), who must remain at the procedure center for
the ENTIRE DURATION of the procedure. If you plan to take a taxi, then an adult (over 18 years of age) must accompany you before
and after the procedure.
Contraindications to the Procedure (notify your Physician of any of these findings):

Active infection
•
If you are taking antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, or antiparasitic medications
•
Fever over 100.4
•
Systolic blood pressure over 200
•
Diastolic blood pressure over 100
•
Blood sugar over 350

You will be transported to the recovery area upon completion of the procedure. You will be monitored until you are stable and feel
safe going home. Please notify the Physician immediately of any concerning symptoms.
Your physician has discussed the necessity of scheduling a procedure for you. Below is some important information regarding the

Please be advised that appointment times may change due to insurance authorization, equipment, or emergency issues.
Also, please note that if you arrive more than 15 minutes after your scheduled time, your procedure may be cancelled.
