This course focuses on concepts required by nurses to
make sound decisions about the administration of
pharmacotherapeutic agents. The nursing process is
used to discuss pharmacotherapeutic agents in
relation to disease prevention and health promotion,
health protection and maintenance.
Course Overview
Content focuses on concepts required by nurses to make
sound decisions about the administration of
pharmacotherapeutic agents to clients across the life
span. The nursing process is used to present situations in
which pharmacotherpeutics are used in health care.
Pharmocotherapeutic agents are discussed in relation to
disease prevention and health promotion, protection, and
maintenance. Legal, ethical, and professional
responsibilities related to drug administration are
included.
Learning Outcomes
 apply the concepts of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamic
interactions, and toxicity to the administration of pharmacotherapeutic
agents
 identify client education essential to the administration of selected
pharmacotherapeutic agents
 use terminology related to pharmacodynamics
 apply the nursing process in medication administration to clients in
case studies
 apply legal, ethical, and professional standards to the administration of
pharmacological agents
 incorporate the knowledge, values, and beliefs of individuals from
diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds into their
pharmacological plan of care
