Week 2 Vocabulary
Your test will have 18 (4 we will do together at the very beginning of the assessment) questions and will cover the
material found in this packet. Good Luck!!
A closed plane figure with straight sides
Examples:
Polygon
A polygon in which all sides and all angles are congruent
Example:
Regular Polygon
A characteristic of something.
Example:
Describe the following image by: shape, size, or color
Attributes
The circle is round.
To classify something means to arrange (a group of people or things) in classes
or categories according to shared qualities or characteristics.
Example:
Classify
A four-sided polygon
Examples:
Quadrilaterals
A character or attribute that something has. Such as color, height,
weight, etc.
Properties
Example:
Some properties of this shape are:
. Its color is blue
. It has 5 sides
. It is regular (all sides and angles are equal)
The same shape and size.
Congruent
Example:
Two shapes are congruent if you can Turn, Flip and/or Slide one so it fits
exactly on the other. In this example the shapes are congruent (you only
need to flip one over and move it a little)
A straight path that goes on forever in opposite directions
Example:
Lines
A line can be named by any two points on the line.
4 + 1 is the same as 5.
Equal
How far from end to end.
Example:
the length of this guitar is about 1 meter
Length
One of the lines that make a flat (2-dimensional) shape.
Or one of the surfaces that make a solid (3-dimensional) object.
Sides
Example:
A figure formed by two rays that meet at a common endpoint
Example:
Angles
Forms or shapes as determined by outlines or exterior surfaces
Example:
Figures
The point where two rays of an angle, two sides of a polygon, or three or more
edges of a solid figure meet
Examples:
Vertex
or
Vertices
Lines in a plane that stay exactly the same distance apart
Example:
Parallel
Two lines that intersect to form four right angles
Example:
Perpendicular
