Areas of Research Interest
As someone with a number of research interests as well as teaching experience in several venues,
my research agenda has been somewhat eclectic. However, currently my enquiry is focused
towards leadership theory and development, specifically as it relates to: under-represented
populations, race and ethnicity, Constructive Development, diversity in organizations, identity and
critical race theory, gender differences in leadership, environmental and Globally Responsible
Leadership, cultural competency and global mindset.
Teaching Philosophy
As an educator, I believe it my role to facilitate an evolutionary process in the classroom
where transformative learning, continued self-discovery, improved communication and
critical thinking skills are developed and used to reflect upon, evaluate and apply subject
matter. My goal is to correlate class topics to current issues and students’ life experience to
encourage learning course content, as well as developing skills for academic and post
educational success. This is done with the desired goals of building relationships and
community, addressing societal needs, as well as identify and contemplating diverse
perspectives. While this general philosophy is the same in underlining the intent when I
teach, the level of critical thinking, application of theory, and degree of insight, as well as
tools of application are different depending on the student’s progressive level. Thus, the
degree and complexity of thought and diligence to course material and forms of exercises
are contingent with undergraduate, master or doctoral level learner’s abilities and
acquisitional abilities.
