Gary Gega 340-9 4/9/14 6th Grade Symbiosis A Symbiotic relationship is a close relationship between two species that benefits at least on the species. The three types of symbiotic relationships are mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism. Mutualism- A relationship where both species benefit. The relationship between the saguaro and the long -eared bat is an example of mutualism. Commensalism- A relationship where one species benefits and the other species is neither helped nor harmed. The red-tailed hawks’ interaction with the saguaro is an example of commensalism. Parasitism- involves on organism living or on another organism and harming it. The organism that benefits is called the parasite and the organism it lives inside or on is called the host. An example of Parasitism is a flea with a dog.
