International Journal of Trends in Computer Systems Engineering Volume 3, issue 6, 2014 Sharma Using Data Mining Techniques In E-learning Environment By Anamika Sharma Dr. Anamika Sharma, Associate Professor , DAV Institute Of Management, Faridabad Abstract The field of data mining and knowledge discovery has been emerging in various important applications such as science, engineering, medicine, business, and now in education. Education today faces challenges to better understand students and the settings which they learn in. Along with traditional learning such as classroom and books eLearning systems are widely accepted as learning media by learner community. eLearning systems can be traditional web based portals, Learning Management System(LMS) and Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS). Various data such as navigation sequence, data related to student learning and assessment is generated by the usage of eLearning systems. This data such as resource usage and performance data can be mined to find some hidden patterns. The result of mining process is used to classify, and discover homogeneous clusters of students, their learning behavior patterns and to redesign the course contents according to student’s need. This article discusses some of data mining methods used in elearning environment.
