PLUTO
OUR SOLAR SYSTEMS
DWARF PLANET
It also has a moon
half its size!
DWARF PLANET
Once known as one of the 9 main planets!
It is dense and rocky, like the terrestrial planets. However, its
nearest neighbors are the gaseous Jovian planets. This is why
many scientists believe that Pluto originated elsewhere in space
and got caught in the Sun's gravity. There is a theory that Pluto
used to be one of Neptune’s moons.
Learning is FUN!

Renamed as a
dwarf planet in

ONCE THE NINTH
PLANET OF OUR
SOLAR SYSTEM
Why is it no longer considered a planet?!
 Does not meet the criteria of a planet

Pluto is relatively round and orbits the Sun, but
it does not meet the criteria because its orbit
crosses Neptune's orbit
Pluto spins in the
opposite direction as
Earth, which means
the sun rises in the
west and sets in the
east. Only Venus,
Uranus, and Pluto
have a retrograde
rotation.
It takes about five
hours for sunlight to
reach Pluto. It takes
eight minutes to
reach Earth.
