Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart 1 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) Born in Salzburg, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was the seventh child – albeit second to survive – of violinist and composer, Johann Georg Leopold Mozart, and Anna Maria Walburga Pertl. The first to survive infancy was Maria Anna Walburga Ignatia, Mozart’s elder sister, a gifted musician, and important inspiration for her younger sibling. A true prodigy, Mozart was already an established performer with keen compositional promise at a young age, writing his earliest pieces at the age of five, completing his first symphony just four years later. Highly regarded within classical music, Mozart can be attributed to some of the world’s most illustrious pieces. His compositional catalogue contains over 600 works including Operas, Symphonies and Concertos, with an abundance written as chamber music including Quartets, Quintets and Dual piano/performer works. Mozart wrote extensively for solo piano, his most recognised being the much acclaimed Piano Sonatas No. 16 in C major (K. 545) and No. 12 “Turkish March” in A major (K. 331).
