NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections Cross NIHR Infrastructure Facility Collaboration Match Funded Pump Priming Scheme DEADLINE: 4.00pm, Friday 16th September 2016 This pump priming initiative seeks to match fund research projects to create a strategic collaboration between HPRU EZI and one or more NIHR Infrastructure facility (HPRUs, BRCs or CLAHRCs for example) or other similar research organisation. BACKGROUND: The NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections (HPRU EZI) invites proposals for new research in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections. The HPRU in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections is a partnership between the University of Liverpool and Public Health England (PHE), in collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, aimed at supporting PHE in its health protection role through high quality research; further details http://www.hpruezi.nihr.ac.uk/ Employees and researchers within the NIHR infrastructure and HPRU EZI members are eligible to apply for funding. Research teams must be collaborative teams between HPRU EZI and at least one other NIHR infrastructure facility and PHE. We anticipate that new projects will start on or before 1st Nov 2016. RESEARCH AREAS OF INTEREST: Applications will be accepted covering any emerging and zoonotic infection, but the HPRU EZI has identified the following of particular areas of interest: - Zika Virus H7N9 Pandemic Flu Yellow Fever EV71 MERS-CoV Antimicrobial Resistance THE FUNDING: The HPRU will provide between £5-£10,000 (Pay and Non-Pay costs) to successful applications on condition that the applicants identify equal amounts of matched funding. The matched funding may be from HPRUs/NIHR infrastructure, Research Councils, Charities, the Pharmaceutical Industry or any other commercial organisation. Matched funding must be obtained prior to the start date of the project (Nov 2016), failure to obtain matched funding by this date will cause withdrawal of the offer. All expenditure against the HPRU EZI funded proportion of the award must take place by 13th March 2017; expenditure after this time will be ineligible. REPORTING: All successful applications will be required to submit a summary report describing the outcomes and impact of the support. All outcomes should acknowledge HPRU support.
