A.REI.1 Explain each step in solving a simple equation as following from the equality of numbers asserted at the previous step, starting from the assumption that the original equation has a solution. Construct a viable argument to justify a solution method.
A.REI.3 Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable, including equations with coefficients represented by letters. Press the tabs to view details.

When I want to determine something like, what I’m really asking myself is: What numbers are 4 units away from 0? Let’s look at a number line:
x + 0 = 4
What two numbers both have a distance of 4 away from 0? ________ and ________
To Solve Absolute Value Equations:
1) Make sure the absolute value
expression is isolated.
2) Set the "INSIDE" equation to
both positive and negative
number from the other side of
the equation. (Write 2 equations)
3) Solve BOTH equations.

Since distance is ALWAYS positive, the absolute
values of a number will NEVER be NEGATIVE!
