NCSRD experience and expertise
Relevant
Projects:
PACT
CyberRoad
DOGANA
SAINT
(Coordinator)
Expertise and Projects in Digital Security
– PACT Decision Support System – privacy impact on
security investments
– PACT Knowledge Base based on a large pan-European
survey on privacy preferences of EU citizens
– In depth analysis of a variety of social and technical
scenarios
– Analysis of legal, ethical and privacy requirements
– Field test validation and analysis of social engineering
attacks, including data protection and privacy aspects
– Applied cyber-security metrics analysis
– Regulation focused comparative analysis
– Data mining and data processing automated analysis for
the development of machine learning algorithms
– Economic and behavioral theoretic analysis for the
development of econometric and behavioral models
Projects on Security (use of agent–based simulation engine):
FLYSEC (H2020 – Coordinator), AF-3, TASS, PYRONES, PERSEUS
DS-07-2017: Proposal Idea
Cybersecurity PPP: Addressing Advanced Cyber Security Threats and Threat Actors
Innovation Actions – Simulation Environments, Training (Project Coordinator)
Research and Innovation Actions –Situational Awareness (WP leader, S/T provider)
Main novelty:
• Serious game technology adaptation to cyber-security/cyber-attacks
• Creation of various virtual operational environments (e.g., using mail services, web –
browsers, file – transfers, chat and social-network uses, etc.)
• Background processes running on potential victims terminal in order to monitor user
behavior and allow interaction
Key components:
• Virtual environments and background processes communicate with NCSRD’s agent–
based simulation engine
• Agents act either individually or collectively as potential malicious users who attack the
potential victims (based on a strategic plan)
• Each agent implements a behavioral model which is responsible for the attack strategy
•
•
•
•
Psychological data about human social engineering vulnerabilities
Cognition and Perception models
Historical data about past cyber-security violations and cyber-attack incidents
Simulation engine provides monitoring, analytics and recommendations
DS-07-2017: Consortium - profile
Proposal coordinator: NCSR DEMOKRITOS
NCSRD’s assets:
• Agent–based simulation engine
• Game engine programming and gamification tools development
• Visualization techniques - UI/UX
• Behavioral model (AI, statistical or deterministic) design based on experts
theoretical use cases and log datasets
• Data analytics, socio-economic studies regarding cyber-security
• Data mining, personalization and recommendation engine
Looking for partners with the following expertise/ technology/ application field:
• Experts in Psychology / Sociology and humanitarian sciences related to cybersecurity, user behavior/perception and reaction to various malicious cyber–stimuli
• End-users (organizations – military – industry) in order to examine several different
use cases and the associated risk and cost
• Experts in Information Systems security
DS-08-2017: Technology provider
Cybersecurity PPP: Privacy, Data Protection, Digital Identities
- Privacy-enhancing Technologies (PET) (WP leader, S/T provider)
- General Data Protection Regulation in practice (GDPR) (WP leader, S/T provider)
• Tools for Privacy Risks Management Framework, in order to allow people
to understand their privacy exposure
– Focus on Social Engineering, Psychology, Cognition and Perception
models
– Economic and behavioral analysis on the risk of privacy exposure
• Tools and methods to assist organizations to implement the General Data
Protection Regulation in practice
– Operational frameworks and best practices
– Virtual operational environments
