The Fertile Crescent
They came, they explored and they discovered this
fascinating land known as the Fertile Crescent.
Reporters interviewed local Archaeologist Nizyrie
Martinez who reported the following facts about this
fascinating early civilization.
Civilization developed as people gave up their huntergathering lifestyles and began to settle in one place. The
places they chose had many natural resources we refer
to a broad path in the Middle East as the Fertile Crescent
. This is a rich fertile growing area in a part of the
world where most of the land is too dry for farming.
The Fertile Crescent is shaped like a quarter moon. It
begins on the east shore of the Mediterranean Sea and

ends in the Pacific Gulf.

The Fertile Crescent includes a narrow strip of land
A Brief Interview with the Archaeologist:
Q: Why do you think people settled in areas WITH
many natural resources?
A: People like to live in places where there’s lots of
damp ground for farming. And to live near a river so
animals and people get to drink water.
between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. We call this
land “Mesopotamia” because it is a Greek term that
means “between the rivers.” Many civilizations have
flourished in Mesopotamia. The first were the
Sumerians, who was replaced in turn by the Assyrian
and the Babylonia. The land between the rivers is now
part of Iraq .

A: yes because it will make people be a lot

The author thinks that the rules are unfair
because you need to include the other people’s

Q: What does ‘the punishment must fit the
crime’ mean?
A: when people kill other they have to be
killed like they did to the other person.

The Sumerians: How they did it.
Why they did it.
The Sumerians began to settle in the l between the [Tigris] and [Euphrates] Rivers about [ ] years ago. They learned
