This will be handed in as classwork. Must be completed.
Identify the three similar right triangles in the given diagram by drawing and labeling
the vertices of the three similar right triangles for exercises 1 and 2 so that the
corresponding sides and angles have the same orientation.
1.
2.
Find the length of the altitude to the hypotenuse. Round decimal answers to the
nearest tenth.
3.
Complete or create and solve the proportion.

6.
Find the value of the variable.

9.
Tell whether the triangle is a right triangle. If so, find the length of the altitude to the
hypotenuse. Round decimal answers to the nearest tenth.

For the next 7 problems:
a. Redraw all 3 triangles with their similar sides and angles lined up.
b. Set up the proportions. Label your index card triangles in pencil and change for
each.
c. If you want, after you have 2 sides you can use Pythagorean’s theorem, or
continue to use proportions to solve for each of the variables.
d. Simplify the radicals. Divide your radical by a perfect square and simplify. For
example, √128 = √64√2 = 8√2. You don’t need a full factor tree. Divide by
100, 81, 64, 49, 36, 25, 16, 9, and 4 (in that order) and see if these are factors. If
you still don’t know how to do this, please work with me.
