There are two types of Hardware
Controllers- Microprocessor board with on board
ethernet connectivity, memory retains all cardholder
access information and makes all decisions for
devices connected to it
SIO Boards- Serial interface boards connect to
controllers via 2 wire 485 communications providing
connections for readers, inputs and outputs
