DESCRIPTIONOFPOSITION:Thisisafull-time(12-month)clinicaltrackpositionwithdiagnostic
service,teaching,andscholarlyactivityresponsibilitiesintheDepartmentofVeterinary
MicrobiologyandPathology(VMP)andtheWashingtonAnimalDiseaseDiagnosticLaboratory
(WADDL)intheCollegeofVeterinaryMedicine(CVM).RankisattheClinicalAssistantProfessor
orClinicalAssociateProfessorleveldependinguponthequalificationsandexperienceofthe
applicant.TheDepartmentofVeterinaryMicrobiologyandPathologyseekscandidateswhose
research,teaching,orservicehaspreparedthemtocontributetoourcommitmenttodiversityand
inclusioninhighereducation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Thepositionisdefinedas60%clinicalservice,20%instruction,and20%
scholarlyactivity.Dutieswillinclude:a)diagnosticveterinarypathologyservicethroughthe
WADDL,b)contributionstodidacticteachinginpathologycoursesintheprofessionalveterinary
medicinecurriculum,c)trainingpost-DVMveterinaryanatomicpathologygraduatestudentsinthe
departmentalCombinedAnatomicPathologyresidency/PhDtrainingprogram,d)instructing
DiagnosticsBlockstudentsinthe4thyearprofessionalveterinarymedicinecurriculum,e)scholarly
activityassociatedwithpublicationofdiagnosticcasematerialsandcollaborativeresearchactivities
andf)academicservicetotheCVM,VMPandWADDL.
QUALIFICATIONS:Applicantsmusthavea)DVM(orequivalent)degree,,b)successfulcompletion
ofapost-DVMresidencytrainingprograminveterinaryanatomicpathology,andc)American
CollegeofVeterinaryPathologists(ACVP)boardexaminationeligibilityandintentiontobecomean
ACVPdiplomate(orcurrentlycertifiedbyEuropeanCollegeofVeterinaryPathologists).The
preferredcandidatewillhaveACVPboardcertification,advanceddegree(MSorPh.D.)and
experienceinteachingveterinarystudents.Alsopreferredisarecordofpeer-reviewed
publications.
DEPARTMENT:VMPisoneoffivedepartments/schoolsintheCVM.Thedepartmentalmissionis
“toenhanceanimalandpublichealththroughteachingveterinaryandgraduatestudents,training
veterinarypathologyandmicrobiologyresidents,andconductingbiomedicalresearchin
infectiousdiseases/immunology”.Thedepartmenttakesprideinwhatwebelieveisan
environmentthatfosterscollaboration,creativity,personalandprofessionalgrowth,and
productivity.Althoughfewfacultymembersarepersonallyinvolvedinallthetraditionalmissions
ofteaching,research,andservice,wevalueandseekexcellenceinallthree.
ThepersonnelofVMP,theUSDA-ARS-AnimalDiseaseResearchUnit,theSchoolforGlobalAnimal
Health,andtheWADDLarehousedtogetherintheCVM.Therearemanyproductiveinteractions
amongtheindividualsinthefourunitsandmanyfacultymembershaveappointmentsinmultiple
units.Therearecongruenciesofinterestsandfruitfulcollaborationsamongthefacultyand
personnelinthesefourunits,andasidefromsomeunit-specificresponsibilities,itisan
overarchingcohesiveorganization.Ouraimandourexpectationisthattothedegreepossible,the
programsofthefourunitswillfunctionseamlessly.
UNIVERSITY:WashingtonStateUniversityisalandgrant,comprehensiveresearchinstitutionwith
anenrollmentofapproximately19,500studentsonthePullmancampus.Thereareelevencolleges
offeringdoctoraldegreesin46disciplines;mastersandbachelor’sdegreesareofferedin67areas
ofstudy.TheUniversityisoneofthelargestresidentialuniversitiesintheNorthwestandPullman
offersasafe,friendly,small-townlivingenvironment.Branchcampusesarelocatedinthreeurban
communitiesacrossthestate.
AREA:WashingtonStateUniversity’sPullmancampusissituatedintherichagriculturalarea
knownasthePalouse,ineasternWashington.Pullmanhasastrongschoolsystemandareputation
asanexcellent,safeenvironmenttoraiseafamily.PullmanisonlyeightmilesfromtheUniversity
ofIdahoatMoscow,approximately1.5hourssouthofSpokaneand5.5hoursfromSeattle.The
Pullmanenvironsoffermanyrecreationalactivitiesincludingskiing,fishing,hunting,whitewater
rafting,camping,hiking,androckclimbing.PullmanisnearthefoothillsoftheRockyMountains,
andnearnumerousrivers,lakesandwildernessareas;includingtheSnake,Salmon,and
Clearwaterrivers,Coeurd’Alene,PendOreille,andPriestlakes,andtheSelway-Bitterroot
Wildernesstonameafew.
