Its projects operate in Canada, Kingdom of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russian Federation, Sweden, and the United States of America. Why does it undertake these initiatives? (its goals & mandates) The Arctic Council undertakes these initiatives because it believes that the Arctic is something that should be preserved by providing environmental protection. Its goals are to reduce emissions and other pollutants, they monitor and assess climate change, prevent pollution in the arctic, and try to sustain resources found in the arctic. One important factor to take into consideration is the climate change. The Arctic is warming twice the rate it normally does providing consequences towards the rest of the globe. Kadri: Social 20-2 International Organizations Fall2016/RIII-11 Effectiveness of Organization Within the last four decades the arctic has warmed drastically, causing sea ice, glacier, and snow cover to melt at a rapid pace. The increased amount of snow and ice being melted can lead to major problems ● Clearly established, like increased sea levels, flooding, and can impact ecosystems. In 2004 the Arctic Council presented the Arctic Climate Impact and Assessment (ACIA) this assessment describes the ongoing climate change worthwhile goals happening in the Arctic and its effects. The (ACIA) provides and records evidence of climate change ● Evidence of success in meeting and information on how it impacts people now and in the future, in hopes of informing governments of these issues. The ACIAs recordings provides evidence of climate change and informed governments of its goals ● Responsiveness to long term problems that will happen if they do not try and solve this issue soon. stakeholders’ needs ● Indicators of longterm or sustainable results Criteria References Stockholm, Stockholm County, Sweden.
