Transcript
An ABR (auditory brainstem response) is a neurological test of auditory (hearing) function which can
evaluate the integrity of the hearing pathway. Clicks or tone bursts are presented to the ear and the
response is measured by electrodes typically placed on the forehead and ear lobes. This test does not
involve needles and is not painful.
An ECOG (electrocochleogram) is a test of inner ear fluid balance. Too much fluid in the inner ear can
play a role in patients with vertigo and fluctuating balance disturbance. Like an ABR, this test does not
involve needles and is not painful.
In order to achieve the best test results, you should carefully follow these instructions:
1. Dress comfortably, wearing flat or low-heeled shoes.
2. Wash your face thoroughly. Use no make-up, creams, or lotions on face. Eye makeup and lipstick
are fine to wear.
3. Please empty your bladder before the test.
If you need to change your appointment time or if you have any questions, please contact the
audiology receptionist at (512) 380–4058.
Please note: Due to time constraints, patients arriving late may need to be rescheduled. If you need
to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please do so 24 hours in advance to avoid a $30 cancellation
charge PER TEST.
