Robert E. Bristow, MD, MBA
Professor and Director
Division of Gynecologic Oncology
Dr. Bristow’s clinical expertise includes the surgical management of advanced
gynecologic cancer, including ovarian, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal
cancers. In addition to the full range of complex surgical procedures, Dr. Bristow
is also experienced in delivering Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy
(HIPEC) in conjunction with debulking operations. Dr. Bristow is also experienced
minimally invasive surgeon with special expertise in robotic hysterectomy and
surgical staging for endometrial cancer and cervical cancer.
Prior to joining the faculty at UC Irvine, Dr. Bristow received numerous awards for
teaching excellence and served as the director of the American Board of
Obstetrics and Gynecology fellowship program in Gynecologic Oncology at the
Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. Bristow’s primary research interests include the surgical management of
ovarian cancer, patterns of health care delivery for women with gynecologic
cancer, and radiographic imaging of gynecologic cancers. He has authored more
than 130 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has served as principal editor
for two medical textbooks (Surgery for Ovarian cancer: Principles and Practice
[2005 and 2010] and Early Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer Series: Ovarian
Cancer [2009]) and two patient-centered books (A Guide to Survivorship for
Women with Ovarian Cancer [2005] and Johns Hopkins Patients’ Guide to
Ovarian Cancer [2009]). Dr. Bristow has been recognized as Castle Connolly
Top Doctor in America for Gynecologic Oncology (2008-2010) and is currently
accepting new patients and is available for physician-to-physician consultations.
