Use atlases to locate Greece – what is Greece like today? Use map (LCP) to locate Greece and use of internet to answers questions about the country. Has anyone ever visited Greece – how would we get there? Show postcard from Greece from flipcharts – explain that ancient history in Greece is one of its big tourist attractions. Look at map of Ancient Greece. Explain that each state had its own system of government. Play the government game (set out in LCP). Recap – how was Greece organised? How was the Athenian democracy different from ours today? Ancient Greece maps Government forms Character labels Know that Athens and Sparta were city states. 3 To find out the similarities and differences between Sparta and Athens. Use of laptops to find out about life in Sparta and Athens. (link to previous week’s homework). Split class into 2 large groups with one writing why Athens is the most important state and the other supporting Sparta. Have a class debate to find out which city will win. Evaluation 4 To find out about Greek warfare Explain that the Greek states often fought wars against each other to gain land and take corn, goats and slaves. The ancient Greeks believed in many gods but there were 12 gods that were very important. These gods were all part of 1 family who lived at the top of Mount Olympus. Complete evidence of the gods then choose a god with a partner to investigate more information about – record together.
