Persian Expansion
Persia on 3 continents, Asia, Africa, and Europe. Largest empire in
Ancient History. Conquered turkey which was where the Ionian Greeks
were.
Ionian Revolt
Athens helps Ionians revolt against Persia. This helps start the Greco
Persian Wars.
1st Persian Invasion
Darius wants to crush Athens for interfering in the Greco Persian Wars.
Led by Darius Brother in Law
Battle of Marathon
Athens defeats Persia in a large land battle outside of Athens. Sparta does
not help because the battle happens during a religious festival.
Persian Retreat &
Inter War Period
Persia was delayed 10 years. Darius dies replaced by Xerxes.
Themistocles finds silver and convinces Athens to build ships with it.

Xerxes leads huge army to conquer all of the Greece.
