Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) is seeking an innovative, academic leader in medical
radiation physics to be Head of Medical Physics within the Radiation treatment program.
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. The Odette
Cancer Centre is the comprehensive cancer program of SHSC and houses one of North America’s
most dynamic radiation oncology programmes.
The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational direction for all academic,
clinical, and administrative functions for the Department. He/she will work collaboratively with
the Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology and the Head of the Department of Radiation
Therapy to oversee the direction and management of the Radiation Treatment Program. In
particular, the candidate will be expected to participate in leading new directions in Radiation
Oncology including a tumour ablation programme, MRI-guided therapies, and advanced imaging
applications in collaboration with scientists in Sunnybrook Research Institute.
SHSC provides an exciting and dynamic research environment for physicists to work alongside a
diverse team of health care professionals. Over 6000 new radiation oncology patients are seen
each year at the Odette Cancer Centre which is equipped with 13 linear accelerators, PET/CT and
MR imaging. The centre offers advanced clinical and research programs in IMRT, IGRT, SRS,
and SBRT and has a medical physics department comprised of over 40 staff. New infrastructure
includes a gamma-knife treatment suite and MR-guided brachytherapy, MR-guided planning
facilities, and MR-Linac technology. As the professional practice leader of Medical Physics, the
head oversees all professional staff and their clinical and academic roles in the department.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and will be a certified medical radiation physicist with
an outstanding academic, managerial and administrative record, and eligible for appointment in
the Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Toronto. The candidate must also have a
demonstrated commitment to person-centred care approach and principles. Salary and benefits
will be commensurate with experience.
