Cardiology in Bulgaria
• Cardiovascular diseases cause about 60% of the death cases in Bulgaria
• Bulgaria is the country with the highest death rate in EU
• More than 10,000 people annually die because of myocardial infarction
• The number of cases with coronary artery disease increases every year
• Tens of thousands of lives are in danger
• The number one reason of death cases is the inability of early diagnostics

What is TEMEO?
ТЕМЕО is an innovative mobile telemedicine system for remote monitoring.
It allows the doctor to oversee and control the patient’s condition 24/7.
The system is developed for cardiac patients with high risk of complications.
Partnerships and Innovations, 2010

Purpose of the system
• Monitoring of cardiac patients in order to prevent complications
• Prompt and early diagnostic of pathological conditions
• Prevention after hospitalization
• Clinical examinations in Cardiology
• Monitoring of elderly and disabled people
• Rehabilitation

How it works
• Electronic sensor in a chest-belt, registers the
activity of the heart and generates an
electromagnetic signal at each contraction of the
heart muscle
• Mobile electronic device receives the signal and
stores the data of the cardiac rhythm
• The device records the patient's physical activity
• The received data is transmitted every 5 minutes
through the GSM module to the Telemedicine
Information Center
• There are four electrodes on the back of the device
connected to an additional ECG module, which
could send the stored ECG record in case of need

How it works
GP
• The patient enters through the user
interface, additional information
regarding his condition: blood
pressure, body weight, laboratory
tests
• Data is stored at the Telemedicine
Information Center

Center
• In case of critical values, the system
generates text messages and sends
them to the doctor and the patient
• If it’s necessary, the overseeing
doctor consults the data with a
specialist-cardiologist
Cardiologist

Interface of the system
TEMEO
• The specialized interface allows the
physician to obtain analytically and
graphically presented data of the
patients (RR, HRV, ECG)
• Each patient has an electronic file
containing medical data with his
condition. It can be monitored in real
time by an authorized physician.
• The access to the patients data is
highly secured
Partnerships and Innovations, 2010

The device TEMEO
• Up to 48 hours in operating mode without
charging
• Integrated GSM module for sending the data
every 5 minutes
• Functioning 3-channel ECG through 4
integrated electrodes
• “EVENT” button for emphasizing the period
when the patient is not feeling well (marker)
• Compact sizes
TUV certificate since September 2010

The hospital increases the patients’ satisfaction and saves (earns) money, while
executing the distant monitoring of many patients
The patient is hospitalized and
treated after a heart attack,
surgery, or other cardio-vascular
problem
Partnerships and Innovations, 2010
The patient receives a TEMEO
device from the hospital and then
could be distantly monitored from
his home
11
Business model for GPs
and Cardiologists
The GP or especially the Cardiologist could provide additional services to their
patients, building loyalty and increasing the level of satisfaction
The GP or the Cardiologist
diagnoses the patient’s
condition and recommends the
monitoring system
Partnerships and Innovations, 2010
The doctor has an LTA with SSI. He
owns couple of TEMEO devices
and provides his patients with them
for a fixed charge
12
Business model for the
Pharmaceutical companies
This could be a major competitive advantage for the pharmaceutical companies to sell
their cardio-vascular medicines. They could give the TEMEO devices as a bonus to
the GPs. The GPs will provide the device to their patients which will increase the
patients’ loyalty and satisfaction due to enhanced treatment and monitoring.
The Pharmaceutical companies will
buy the TEMEO devices and
provide them to the GPs, as a
bundle with the cardio medicines
Partnerships and Innovations, 2010
The GP or the Cardiologist
diagnoses the patient’s condition
and recommends the bundle
