MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERES observes strict neutrality and impartiality in the name of universal medical
ethics and the right to humanitarian assistance and demands full and unhindered freedom in the exercise
of its functions.
We are looking for a dedicated team player to join us. He/she will be a part of a team and supporting all
projects. The successful candidate will work in Mumbai under direct supervision of the ART Centre
Intervention Coordinator of MSF India.
Gross Salary: 22,972 INR per month ( Non negotiable)
PURPOSE OF POST
To support staff of the ART centre in the early detection and treatment of patients coinfected with HIV and
TB and in the rationalisation of resources to improve the quality of medical care for PLWHA.
FUNCTIONAL AND HIERARCHICAL LINES
The Nurse will report to the ART Centre Intervention Coordinator.
MISSION AND PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
For immediate implementation:
- Improve linkage in diagnosis and treatment of patients co-infected with HIV and TB, with
emphasis on drug resistant ( DR) TB.
- To support the KEM staff in the counselling and health education given to all HIV patients
suspected /confirmed of having (DR)TB.
- Working with ART centre staff and relevant hospital staff to improve infection control
measures within the ART centre .
- To improve medical care for PLWHA by optimising efficiency through the rationalisation of
resources
- Represent MSF image among the associated partners and population.
- For implementation at future date:
- Improve diagnosis and treatment of HIV + patients co-infected with hepatitis B and C
- Possible future assistance in the area of viral load monitoring

Responsibilities of the ART Centre nurse
Medical











To ensure systematic screening for TB by ART centre staff of all patients attending the
ART centre.
To ensure that all TB suspect patients are referred by the ART centre nurses to the ART
centre doctor and then for testing by Genexpert to detect multi- drug resistant (MDR)
TB.
To oversee the sending of samples of all MDR patients to reference laboratory for
culture and drug sensitivity testing (DST).
To oversee the ART centre nurses in the follow up of all positive results with the ART
centre doctor and contacting patient in the case of positive results
To ensure that all patients identified with drug resistance greater than that of MDR TB
to be given appropriate information by ART centre staff to enable them to make
informed decision on treatment options.
To develop link between ART centre and wards to ensure that all hospitalized patients
suspected of having TB are tested for DRTB.
To support ART centre staff in the management of patient flow.
To oversee ART centre nurses in identifying all stable patients eligible for decreased
frequency in consultations.
To train and follow up ART centre pharmacy nurse in education given to patients on
HIV medicines.
To assist in implementation of forthcoming introduction (starting date yet to be
defined) of treatment for hepatitis C. and serve as link between ART centre and MSF
clinicians.
To oversee supply and storage of Hepatitis C treatment and train pharmacy nurse in
patient education on the drug.
To assist in any potential future support on Viral Load monitoring, serving as the link
between ART centre and MSF clinician..
Infection Control ( IC)
 To support the MSF infection control officer in overseeing the implementation and
maintenance of infection control ( IC) measures within the ART centre, following
national and MSF guidelines .
 To identify and support ART centre nurse to oversee IC within the centre.
 To participate in initial trainings to be given by IC officer and follow up on
implementation. To give follow up trainings independently.
 To ensure universal precautions for sample collection/storage are understood and
respected by ART centre nurse.
 To attend monthly meetings of hospital IC committee together with IC officer and ART
Intervention coordinator in their absence to represent MSF.
 To ensure that all equipment donated ( eg: fans/air extractors) are functioning and in
event of problem to report to IC officer.
Patient Support
.
 To be the link with the MSF patient support team in the follow up of their activities
such as adherence counselling, support group meetings and health education

sessions.
Trainings
 To assist in identifying the needs along with MSF staff( Clinician, Patient Support
Manager, Infection Control Officer ) and relaying the information to the ART
intervention coordinator and Assistant Field Coordinator for conducting the trainings
 To organize and participate in trainings to ART centre staff by the MSF patient support
team on communication, counselling and health education, with follow up, in the
following areas: HIV/TB/DRTB: Hepatitis B and C (once intervention initiated): viral load
monitoring if an intervention is initiated
Communication
 Participate in the meetings of ART centre staff.
 To liaise, together with the ART centre staff, with other staff within the hospital:
laboratory, hospital wards, hospital social work department and any other department
when necessary.
 To accompany meetings of coordinator/other MSF team members with senior hospital
staff as required and - if called upon, - to represent MSF independently.
 To liaise with representatives of MDACS as necessary, ensuring the intervention
coorindinator is informed. In the absence of coordinator to inform medical focal point
of all meetings with MDACS.
 To liaise with transport company for delivery of samples to reference laboratory.
 To attend , when deemed necessary, MSF coordination meetings.
 To support coordinator in giving updates to both MSF medical team and general MSF
team.
Documentation
 To oversee documentation of all samples sent to reference laboratory and make
monthly check of all report bills.
 In collaboration with intervention coordinator make monthly schedule of activities and
inform promptly on any changes needing to be made.
 Collaborate with the intervention coordinator in the writing of the MSF monthly
situational report and three monthly quarterly report. In the absence of the
coordinator to do this independently.
 To accurately maintain and analyse MSF data base in collaboration with the
intervention coordinator,
 Provide accurate data in a timely manner as requested by coordinator.

General






To be prepared to rotate to other areas of the Mumbai project, if required : within the
MSF clinic, outreach activities, or within other interventions by MSF.
Be flexible to implement any future intervention, within the ART centre of KEM, or a
further ART centre, that may subsequently be decided upon by the coordination team.
Availability and flexibility in the case of MSF emergency intervention.
To help, if requested, in the organisation of the meetings & other gatherings.
Follow the MSF security guidelines.
Respect MSF Charter & MSF Employee charter.

REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications, Knowledge-


General Nurse Midwifery(GNM).
TB and/ or HIV knowledge a definite advantage.

Work experience




Minimum of 2 years of post nursing qualification experience.
Proven Experience in coaching/capacity building of others
Proven experience in supervising and managing a medical team
Experience with working an NGO, ideally in the area of area of TB and/or HIV.
Specific skills







Computing skills necessary: knowledge of Word, Excel.
Language skills: fluent written and spoken English,
fluent written and spoken Hindi, fluent spoken Marathi
Extremely good interpersonal communication skills: extremely diplomatic personality:
must be very flexible in all issues related to work and very patient when dealing with
others
Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
Able to empathise with patients and relatives.
Proactive,ability to work in a interdisciplinary team ,open-minded and no political
involvement.
