KT1&KT2 COURSE DESCRIPTION Course Description: The Kinesio Taping® Method fosters the body's natural ability to heal itself by activating neurological and circulatory systems to correct biomechanical dysfunction, relieving pain, and other symptoms. Participants will learn the fundamental concepts of Kinesio Taping® as well as advanced corrective techniques for mechanical, fascial, tendon/ligament, and lymphatic problems. This non-invasive, easy-to-use modality is preferred by Physical & Occupational Therapists and other health professionals worldwide. Upon completion of this two-day course, participants will be able to use the Kinesio Taping Method in a clinical setting. Course Objectives: By the end of the course, attendees will be able to: Correctly describe the fundamental concepts of Kinesio Taping Method Accurately describe the unique qualities of Kinesio Tex Tape Apply the Kinesio Taping Method correctly to relax and stimulate muscles Correctly apply the 5 corrective techniques of the Kinesio Taping Method in guided laboratory sessions Apply the Kinesio Taping Method correctly for pain, swelling, joint mobility, and stability Correctly apply Kinesio Taping techniques for treatment of select clinical conditions using the concepts and principals of the Kinesio Taping Method MATERIALS Instructor will present material based on a PowerPoint presentation. Participants will also utilize tape to practice during lab sessions. Each participant will also receive a workbook and upon completion of the course access to an online database. RELEVANCE OF COURSE This course is appropriate for Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Doctors of Chiropractic, Athletic Trainers, and Massage Therapists as the Kinesio Taping® Method involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist and give support or to prevent over-contraction. The first technique gives the practitioner the opportunity to actually give support while maintaining full range of motion, enabling the individual to participate in physical activity with functional assistance. The second technique helps prevent overuse or over-contraction and helps provide facilitation of lymph flow 24 hours per day. It is most commonly used in the acute stage of rehabilitation. Correctional techniques include mechanical, lymphatic, ligament/tendon, fascia, space, and functional. Kinesio® Tex Tape can be used in conjunction with other therapies, including cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, massage therapy, and electrical stimulation. Kinesio Taping® affects the activation of the neurological system, the body’s information processor, and the circulatory system. Muscles are not only attributed to the movements of the body but they also control the circulation of venous and lymph flows, body temperature, etc. Therefore, the failure of the muscles to function properly induces various kinds of symptoms. Consequently, so much attention was given to the importance of muscle function that the idea of treating the muscles in order to activate the body's own healing process came about. Using an elastic tape, it was discovered that REVISED: 05.19.2014 Page 1 of 2 muscles and other tissues could be helped by outside assistance. Employment of Kinesio Taping® creates a totally new approach to treating nerves, muscles, and organs. KT1 Fundamental Concepts of the Kinesio Taping® Method DAY 1 The KT1 course is designed to introduce practitioners to the Kinesio Taping® Method. Over the course of this eight-hour class, the Instructor will discuss the fundamental concepts of the Kinesio Taping® Method and the unique properties and use of Kinesio® Tex Tape. During lab sessions, attendees will have ample time to practice screening and muscle testing created for the enhancement of your Kinesio Taping® skills and muscle applications for both the upper and lower body. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss and apply the Kinesio Taping® Method to relax overuse syndromes, stimulate weak muscles, and decrease pain and swelling. In addition to instruction provided by a Certified Kinesio Taping® Instructor (CKTI), the attendee will receive a full-color Kinesio Taping® KT1&KT2 Workbook to augment their training. KT2 Advanced Concepts & Corrective Techniques of the Kinesio Taping® Method DAY 2 The KT2 course builds on material learned in KT1. During this eight-hour class, the Instructor will introduce the six Corrective Techniques (Mechanical, Functional, Space, Fascia, Ligament/Tendon, and Lymphatic) and discuss their application in a variety of clinical conditions. During lab sessions, attendees will have ample time to practice applying these techniques to a variety of upper and lower body conditions. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss and apply the Kinesio Taping® Method to orthopedic & neurological conditions. Each attendee will receive a 60-day access to the KTAI database. REVISED: 05.19.2014 Page 2 of 2
