INTRODUCTION
Creation of the proposed tutorial is dictated by the needs of the modernization of
the higher medical education.
The professional competence is an important component of a personality
development. It’s level is estimated by the level of modern technology skills mastering
in the field of medical practice, which are based on the study of the specialized
language of the medical profession.
For this purpose the Latin Medical Terminology Department of the Kursk State
Medical University (KSMU) is focused on the formation of the subject-professional
competencies, which provide the basics of the international language of
communication of physicians for bilingual students.
The tutorial “Collected Tests in Latin Medical Terminology for foreign students
of the medical department” may be applied not only as a teaching aid during regular
classes, but it may be used by the students for independent work, which enables the
teachers to check the level of the corresponding competences.
Besides, the teaching function of the tutorial is evident, as it systematizes the
studied material and makes self control of the students possible due to the offered keys
to the tasks.
It is assumed that in the process of studying the basics of Latin medical
terminology by using the test techniques the students will achieve the following
objectives:

formation of the notion of the Latin language and modern state of the
medical terminology;

formation of the components of the subject-professional competence
comprising:
- grammar competence, mastered on the basis of the International Anatomical
terminology,
- competence of terminological
word building based on the "The Clinical
Terminology",
- competence, based on the analysis of types of drug names and obtaining the
necessary
pharmacological
information
from
them
in
the
"Pharmaceutical
terminology",
- competence of assuming the terminological vocabulary of three subdivisions
of the medical term system.
- competence of terminological training, formed by drilling the test tasks;

formation
of
cognitive
and
analytical
students’
skills.
The authors hope that the tutorial “Collected Tests in Latin Medical Terminology for
foreign students of the medical department” will help students not only to master the
Latin Medical Terminology, but will also create firm relations between Latin and
professional disciplines which is our major aim.
