What is Ergo?

Ergo Installation
• Objective
• To learn to install Ergo

System Prerequisites
• Operation System
• Linux (just about any version)
• MacOSX (10.5 Leopard or higher)
• Windows (XP and higher)
• Java: Ergo-EQ requires Sun Java
• Only need Java runtime environment (JRE) for Windows and
Linux
• MacOSX will require JDK 1.7 or higher
• Java 1.7 or higher
• Java 1.7 is the same as JRE 7.0
Ergo-EQ Packages
• Ergo is available in a number of different packages for
different Operating Systems, make sure you grab the
package that matches your system
• http://ergo.ncsa.illinois.edu/?page_id=356
• If you install Java for 32bit, then you need to install 32bit version.
If you have 64bit Java, then you need to have 64bit
Exercise
• Download the Ergo package to your laptop
• If your machine is Linux or Mac OS X, untar the file
• On Mac OS X you can just double-click in the Finder
• If your machine is Windows, unzip the file
• This creates an ERGO.win32.win32.x86_64 folder
containing the executable as well as other support files
and folders in the location you chose (e.g.
C:\ERGO.win32.win32.x86_64)
Starting Ergo
• Linux
• From a terminal window, enter
“<eclipse_installation_path>/ERGO.gtk.linux.x86_64/Ergo-EQ &”
• Or, open the ERGO folder and Double-click on the ERGO-EQ
executable
• Windows
• Open the ERGO folder
• Double-click on the Ergo-EQ.exe executable
• Mac OS X

From Finder, open the ERGO folder where you installed
Double-click on the Ergo-EQ application
Or launch from a terminal window
Extra steps required (next 2 slides)
Executing on Mac (1/2)
• If you encounter a popup
informing you ERGO cannot be
opened because it is from an
unidentified developer.
• Right click (or control-click) the
ERGO application and select
open. A new popup will open
this time giving you the option to
open the application. Select
“Open” to launch ERGO.
Executing on Mac (2/2)
• If you encounter a popup, requiring you to install the Java
SE 6 Runtime, select the “install” or “OK” button and
continue with the Java 6 SE Runtime setup
• Note that you system also already has Java JDK 1.7 or
1.8 installed
Select Ergo-EQ Repository
• Where it asks to select
repositories to update,
leave it as default so ErgoEQ Public Repository is
selected
• Click Finish

• Install the QGIS
• You don’t need any sample data, either
• To Open QGIS in Mac you need 3 other required
downloads
• GDAL 1.11
• MatPlotLib for Python
• Numpy
