Requests for Change (RFCs)
Requests for Change (RFCs) introduce new features and track changes that enhance the
operation of .NET Data Provider for Teradata software. The following RFCs have been
incorporated in this release.
Table 1: .NET Data Provider for Teradata 12.00.00 RFCs
RFC
Feature or Enhancement
.NET Data Provider for Teradata 12.00.00 New Features
100035
.NET Data Provider for Teradata:
• Does not depend on Teradata Call-Level Interface (CLI)
• Is 100 percent managed code and communicates directly with Teradata Database
• Supports XCOPY deployment, simply copy the assemblies to the application
directory
102718
Stored Procedure output parameters are accessible as the very first result set of the
TdDataReader, if the application:
• Does not bind Input-Output or Output parameters
• Sets the TdCommand.CommandType to CommandType.Text
• Sets the TdCommand.CommandText to the CALL SQL statement
This is a useful feature for ad-hoc query tools that do not support Output or InputOutput parameters.
12
102777
Support for SELECT statements with over 2000 columns or expressions.
105201
• The installation can selectively install publisher policy files into the Global
Assembly Cache. Previous versions of the provider always installed publisher
policy files into the GAC.
• Publisher Policy files target an existing application having a dependency on earlier
versions of the provider
106631
• There is a new Hierarchical Server Explorer view in Visual Studio 2005. It provides
quick access to Data Dictionary objects (Databases, Tables, Views, Stored
Procedure and more.)
• Single-click access to SHOW commands from Visual Studio 2005 Server Explorer
(for example, SHOW TABLE)
• Support for expired-password and change-password in Visual Studio 2005
108998
.NET Data Provider for Teradata generates Authentication String for LDAP and
SPNEGO Authentication Mechanisms based on User ID and Password fields. This
should greatly simplify application development and interoperability with packaged
applications.
110309
.NET Data Provider for Teradata cancels pending asynchronous commands when
TdConnection is closed.
113666
.NET Data Provider for Teradata has Provider Specific Value Types for Date,
Timestamp, Timestamp with Time Zone, Time and Time With Time Zone Teradata
Data Types.

Dependencies
.NET Framework Version 2.0 Dependency
.NET Framework Version 2.0 is a dependency for .NET Data Provider for Teradata version
12.00.00. It must be installed prior to installing .NET Data Provider for Teradata.
Note: If .NET Framework Version 2.0 is not installed prior to attempting to install .NET Data
Provider for Teradata, the .NET Data Provider for Teradata installation will abort and request
that .NET Framework Version 2.0 be installed first, before continuing.
Visual Studio 2005 Integration Feature
Visual Studio 2005 Integration feature integrates:
•
.NET Data Provider for Teradata schema collection into the Microsoft Visual Studio Server
Explorer. It provides access to Teradata Data Dictionary including Databases, Tables,
Views and Stored Procedures.
•
.NET Data Provider for Teradata help files into the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 help
collections. It enables context sensitive help for all classes in Teradata.Client.Provider
namespace.
If Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 or Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is installed on the system, and
the Visual Studio Integration feature is selected, then the .NET Data Provider for Teradata
product is integrated into Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, and/or Microsoft SQL Server
Business Intelligence Development Studio.

Publisher Policy
A publisher policy assembly configures the policy used when the .NET Data Provider for
Teradata runtime binds to an assembly. The publisher policy assembly is installed into the
GAC and is named using the following naming convention:
policy.major_ver.minor_ver.Teradata.Client.Provider.dll
where: major_ver and minor_ver refer to the major and minor version of the old version of the
.NET Data Provider for Teradata.
Therefore, if upgrading from .NET Data Provider for Teradata 01.02.00 to .NET Data Provider
for Teradata 12.00.00, and binding all existing applications to the 12.00.00 version, the
publisher policy assembly policy.1.2.Teradata.Client.Provider.dll must be placed in the Global
Assembly Cache to redirect existing application built against .NET Data Provider for Teradata
01.02.00 to .NET Data Provider for Teradata 12.00.00.
•
If this is a new installation of .NET Data Provider for Teradata, do not select Publisher
Policy.
•
If this is an upgrade of a previous installation of .NET Data Provider for Teradata, select
Publisher Policy for installation.

•
TdDataReader.GetSchemaTable() method reports an invalid Column Size for columns of
type CLOB. This is due to a defect in the Teradata Database. For additional information,
refer to DR 100397 to determine if this issue is applicable to your installation, or contact a
Teradata GSC representative.
•
Stored Procedures return garbled Error Messages when Session Character Set UTF16 is
used. This is due to a defect in the Teradata Database. For additional information, refer to
.NET Data Provider for Teradata Release Definition Including Installation Instructions
Chapter 1: Release Information
Release Information
DR 90385 and DR 100534 to determine if this issue is applicable to your installation, or
contact a Teradata GSC representative.
•
The maximum input parameter size when Session Character Set is UTF8 is 32000 bytes.
This is due to a limitation in the Teradata Database. For additional information, refer to
DR 97879 to determine if this issue is applicable to your installation, or contact a Teradata
GSC representative.
•
.NET Data Provider for Teradata returns an incorrect result for HELP TYPE, HELP
TRANSFORM and HELP CAST SQL statements. This is due to a defect in the Teradata
Database. For additional information, refer to DR 99885 to determine if this issue is
applicable to your installation, or contact a Teradata GSC representative.
•
The Size property of a parameter must be specified for parameters that are of type out or
inout, and that are varying length data types. Refer to DR 103626. An exception will be
thrown if the Size is less than or equal to 0. Size will also be used to determine how much
data is returned for out/inout parameters of data types that are varying length. For
example, suppose Size = 10, DbType = DbType.String. The maximum length of the string
that can be returned is 10.
•
There are outstanding side-by-side install and uninstall issues related to version 01.00.00,
01.01.00 and 01.02.00. The uninstall does not update the following registry key to the last
available version (for example version 01.01.00.00 after 01.02.00.00 is uninstalled):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\.NETFramework\AssemblyFolders\
Teradata Data Provider
Therefore, .NET Data Provider for Teradata is not listed in the Add Reference dialog box.
•
Install adds/creates a directory in Program Files (x86) on x64 (64-bit) operating systems.
•
The TdDataAdapter Configuration Wizard, in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, does not
generate unique names for the Commands. It always generates SelectCommand,
InsertCommand, UpdateCommand and DeleteCommand names for the corresponding
instances of TdCommand class. In order to configure a second or subsequent
TdDataAdapter, the existing generated commands must be renamed to a different name
which does not conflict with the default generated command names. For instance
SelectCommand may be renamed to SelectCommand1.
