Human Pathophysiology 6 Contact Hours Course Description This course covers the nature, etiology, prognosis, prevention, and therapies of human disease. A laboratory is required. Not for biology majors. II. Prerequisite BIO 201, BIO 202, and BIO 220 III. Course Textbook, Manuals, or Other Required Materials Kumar, Vinay, Robbins & Cotran. Pathologic Basis of Disease. 8th edition, Elsilver (Saunders), 2010. IV. Course Learning Outcomes A. B. C. D. V. The student will develop an understanding of genetic disorders, teratogens, prenatal diagnostics, neoplasia, and alterations in temperature regulations. The student will develop an understanding of mechanisms of infectious disease, inflammation, the immune system, and alterations in skin function. The student will develop an understanding of alterations in cardiac function, respiratory function, and endocrine control. The student will develop an understanding of alterations in motor functions and vision, sexually transmitted diseases, and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Outline of Course Topics A. VIII. Attendance Students are expected to attend all classes for which they are registered. Students who are unable to attend class regularly, regardless of the reason or circumstance, should withdraw from that class before poor attendance interferes with the student’s ability to achieve the objectives required in the course. Withdrawal from class can affect eligibility for federal financial aid. IX.
