Year 9 Autumn 2 Geometrical reasoning Prior Knowledge: In year 8 students cover angle sums of triangles and quadrilaterals, angles around a point and on a straight line. This should be revision and the main thrust of this topic should be regular polygons, and problems and proof involving interior/exterior angles. This will lay the ground work for the ‘proof’ topic in the summer term. Lesson Number Learning Outcomes Notes Timings and Title 1 Triangles and quadrilaterals - 2 Parallel lines 3 Interior and exterior angles 4 - Know the angle sums for triangles and quadrilaterals, angles around a point and on a straight line Use standard conventions for labelling the sides and angles of triangle ABC Apply these angle facts to solve problems involving finding missing angles Solve problems which occur in a real world context Know angle facts involving opposite, alternate and corresponding angles Apply these angle facts to solve problems involving finding missing angles Solve problems which occur in a real world context TBAT find the interior and exterior angles of a regular polygon Be able to explain how to calculate and use these angles to solve a problem Able to pull together facts learnt in previous lessons to solve a range 1 1 1 1 Review of angle facts 5 Congruent triangles of different angle problems - Use standard conventions for labelling the sides and angles of a triangle ABC Know and use the criteria for congruence of triangles 1
