CITIZENSHIP, COMMUNITY AND SERVICE Students select a learning experience that focuses on citizenship, community or service and study the theoretical and applied aspects of political, civic or social engagement in group affiliations by taking an approved course or engaging in a service learning experience under the advisement of a faculty member that includes an academic component and is registered for credit. (The GE code is CC, 3 credits) Learning Outcome: Student engage in the theoretical or applied aspects of political, civic or social engagement in group affiliations. [Revised spring 2016] To be eligible for CC credit the service learning experience must receive prior approval. The service learning experience must be taken for credit, and may be a • 3-credit service learning internship (290/390/490) that includes 120 hours of documented service learning and an academic component that is designed with the faculty internship advisor; • 3-credit individual study course (299/399/499) that includes both service learning and academic component; or • student-faculty research/creative activity course (291/391/491) that equitably involves community groups and/or organizations as part of the research/creative activity. To request pre-approval complete the Request for Internship or Individual Study to be considered for General Education Citizenship, Community, Service category form and submit the form, signed by you and your faculty advisor to [email protected] prior to beginning the project. Approval for GE status will not be provided after the project is completed.
