IMRT: An introduction into a
“new” radiotherapy technique

Abstract
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy is a relatively new technique in
the treatment of cancer, but there is more than one method of delivery, and a
vast number of considerations to take into account once the decision to use
this modality has been made. This report will give an introduction into IMRT
covering aspects of the history, details of the technique, and equipment
requirements. It is intended to give readers who are familiar with radiotherapy
in general but know little about IMRT, a broad overview of the main process,
to make the study of more detailed papers easier to understand.
