Lesson 5: IMM
139
This lesson will need to be practiced before church. You can use children or adults or both to act this out. Have
one person stand in the front of the room. Have the six people with the signs on their necks make a circle
around the child, hold hands and start walking around the child. Instruct the child to jump up and down and
wave his hands and act as if he is trying to get someone to help him get out of the circle.
Boys and girls, this is how many people are in the world today. They are surrounded by sin and
lies. Many people are suffering and are trying to escape, but they do not know how. There are
many other religions that claim they know how to break away from sin.
(Have Buddhist priest walk by circle and instruct the child in the circle to sit down and start meditating. The
Buddhist priest does the same outside the circle.) Those who believe in Buddha (you probably see his
statue at Chinese restaurants) think that we are to give up all pleasures of life and spend much
time in meditation and that this will help us become like god. They believe if we do this enough
we might achieve “Nirvana” when we die, meaning a state of nothingness.
(Have Hindu priest walk in front of circle and start throwing flower petals everywhere and chanting. Then have
him rub a red mark on the child’s forehead.) Hindus believe that there are many hundreds of gods
that we can pray to. If you go to one of their temples and pray, the priest puts a mark on your
forehead symbolizing you have prayed. Hindus believe in Reincarnation. They believe if you
pray hard enough, and do a lot of good works that when you die you will come back to life as
something great, like a rich person. But if you live a bad life you may come back to life as an
insect or a really poor person. So you must live many lives trying to do good and maybe one day
you will get to achieve “Moksha,” eternal bliss or salvation.
(Have Muslim walk by circle. Have him instruct the child to do what he does. Have him place his rug on the
floor and bow down five times with his hands out stretched, lean forward, and touch his forehead to the
ground.) Muslims believe that we must pray five times a day, and keep strict fasting rituals to
gain favor with Allah to achieve eternal life. Like the other religions we have discussed, they
base their relationship with God on the works they do.
(Have a pastor with a Bible walk to the circle. Have him start acting as if he is reading Scripture to the child.)
Christianity is the only religion that is not based on our works but on the work that Jesus did for
us on the cross. This is the message we need to take as missionaries. (The child in the circle should
bow on his knees and pray. After he prays, he stands up and breaks through the circle of sin and starts shouting
“I’m free! I’m free!”)
Romans 10:13 says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” It doesn’t say
we must do a lot of good works first. It says we simply need to call out to God and believe that
He sent His Son, Jesus. Jesus has done it all for us!
