Dr. Christensen completed his dental qualification in Copenhagen in 1990, followed by a PhD in 1993. He continued his education at Guy’s and St. Thomas’s in London and gained his MSc in 1996, which was followed by MOrth at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 1997. Dr. Christensen currently has a very successful private practice in Oxford, UK. He has lectured extensively in Europe, USA, Middle East and Asia. Dr. Christensen is a member of the British Orthodontic Society, the European Orthodontic Society, The British Dental Association, the Danish Society of Orthodontic Specialists, the Cranio-facial Society of Great Britain and Ireland, the World Federation of Orthodontics and the American Association of Orthodontics. He is also an affiliate member of Edward H. Angle Society in California. MBT™ treatment philosophy 2010 and beyond Treatment planning considerations in adult orthodontics Day 1, 09.00 – 10.30 Day 1, 10.50 – 12.30 This lecture will have some clinical cases regarding MBT ™ treatment philosophy which relate to diagnosis, planning, goals and results. Low forces will be considered using self-ligating appliance, plus the advantages and results focusing on patient functional occlusion. Adult orthodontics is the fastest growing area of orthodontics for many clinicians. Most orthodontists find that management of adult orthodontic cases require a different skill set to the one used in treatment of adolescents. In this lecture, Dr. Christensen will highlight the differences in treatment planning and patient management when treating adult patients. Topics covered will be diagnostic tools, treatment limitations, expectation management, inter-proximal enamel reduction techniques, appliance maintenance during treatment, treatment mechanics and retention strategies. The stages of treatment Day 2, 09.00 – 10.30 In this presentation Dr. Christensen will highlight the stages of treatment as described in the MBT™ philosophy. Examples of the mechanics in the stages of treatment will be illustrated with clinical examples with both conventional and self-ligating appliances. The points covered in this lecture will include archwires for alignment, bite opening mechanics, Class II correctors for anchorage control, tooth displacement and fixed retainer types. 6 7 MBT™ Symposium 2010 Speakers Prof. Dr. Dietmar Segner 1979–1984 Dental School at Hamburg University 1984–1987Orthodontic training with Prof. A. Hasund, Hamburg University 1987–1994Instructor at Orthodontic Department, Hamburg University 1989–1991Research work at Oslo University Dr. Davide Mirabella 1995–1997Head of Orthodontic Department, Hamburg University since 1997Private orthodontic practice and part-time teaching Research Essay Award (1985) of the European Orthodontic Society 1989 Degree in Dentistry, Catania University 1993 Specialized in Orthodontics, University of Washington (Seattle, USA) 1993 Master of Science in Dentistry, University of Washington (Seattle, USA) Visiting Professor at the Orthodontics School of Specialization at the Ferrara University National and international lecturer, author of publications for international and national reviews Provisional Member Angle Society of Europe 1995 Specialized in Lingual Orthodontics Ordinary Member for SIDO, AAO and EOS 1993 Ph.D. in Orthodontics, Hamburg University 2000 Specialized in Orthodontics, Cagliari University Private practice in Catania, Italy 1994Professor of Orthodontics, Hamburg University 2004 C ultural Counselor for SIDO (Orthodontics Italian Society) Wires, slots, and play – how to optimize biomechanic efficiency in the MBT™ system Orthodontic Implant Site Development: Clinical consideration Day 1, 13.30 – 15.00 Osseointegrated dental implants have been successfully used for many years in the treatment of partially edentulous jaw. Short- and long-term prognosis of single tooth implants is now favorable but esthetic compromises often need to take into account if there is a lack of soft and hard tissue in the implant site. The aim of this presentation is to discuss the role of 3-dimensional orthodontic tooth movement in generating the proper amount of soft and hard tissue for optimal implant placement. Cases are presented to discuss indications, advantages and clinical strategies when Orthodontic Implant Site Development is carried out. Accurate clinical procedures are suggested to enhance the effect of tooth movement in generating soft and hard tissue and increasing the esthetic outcome. Through the optimal combination of wire dimension, wire material and slot play, the efficiency of the appliance can be enhanced. The distinct tasks in the different treatment phases require different wires to get the maximum out of the appliance system, no matter whether conventionally ligated or self-ligated brackets are used. Wire sequences will be presented that work effortlessly/comfortably to solve standard cases as well as to find solutions for special tasks. No wonders, but wonderfully efficient! Day 1, 15.20 – 17.00 Clinical strategies for a good finishing with the MBT™ treatment philosophy Day 2, 10.50 – 12.30 8 MBT ™ treatment philosophy has been widely used throughout the world since 1999. It is versatile, effective, tried and tested, easy to use and globally recognized. Facial and dental planning, bracket prescription and specific placement, proper arch form and archwire coordination, light forces, anchorage control and sliding mechanics are the main MBT ™ characteristics. After 16 years of personal clinical experience, a variety of clinical cases will be presented and treatment stages will be accurately shown to explain how the aesthetic and finishing goals were reached. 9 MBT™ Symposium 2010 Speakers Dr. Colin Melrose Dr. John Scholey 2002 PGCertTL University Of Lancaster 1997 FDS(Orth) Royal College Of Surgeons Edinburgh 2003 Intercollegiate Fellowship in Dental Surgery in Orthodontics, Royal College Of Surgeons of Edinburgh 1993 MDentSci Liverpool University 2001 Master of Dental Science with distinction, University Of Liverpool 1993 MOrth Royal College Of Surgeons Edinburgh 2001 Membership in Orthodontics, Royal College of Surgeons of England 1990 FDS Royal College Of Surgeons Edinburgh 2001 Membership in Orthodontics, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh 1985 BDS Liverpool University Dental Hospital 1997 Fellowship in Dental Surgery Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh 1992 BDS University of Birmingham Workshop 1: Case report using mini implant systems Workshop 2: Case report of MBT™ interdisciplinary cases Day 2, 13.30 – 16.00 Day 2, 13.30 – 16.00 1. The Workshop will focus on the orthodontic role in treatment of dento-facial deformity. Treatment mechanics will be shown to facilitate pre-surgical preparation of patients for orthognathic surgery using MBT ™ treatment of anterior open bite, both surgical and non-surgical treatment will be shown, including use of TADs and single and 3 part maxillary procedures. 3.
