AS Level Pure Core 1
WHAT I’M GOING TO LEARN
AUTUMN 1
I HAVE ACHIEVED THIS BY…
Recap on the A/A* GCSE Algebra
Solving and sketching quadratic functions
Simultaneous equations involving quadratic functions
Straight line geometry
Arithmetic sequence and sigma notation
Transforming functions
Sketch and interpret cubic and reciprocal graphs
SKILLS THAT WILL HELP ME TO USE & DEVELOP
I HAVE SHOWN THESE SKILLS BY…
 Simplifying expressions involving surds
 Factorising and sketching quadratics
 Forming conclusions using the discriminant
 Use and apply y=mx+c and y-y1 = m(x – x1)
 Understand the effect of translation on graphs
HOW I’LL KNOW HOW WELL I’M DOING
 I can recall formulae needed for Co-ordinate geometry
 I will regularly check my answers and seek help when needed
 I will read and respond to teacher feedback
 My initial starter test
 My half-term assessment, consisting of past exam paper questions,
will show how I am progressing and areas for improvement
 I will work with others and follow up on relevant peer feedback

AS Level Pure Core 1
WHAT I’M GOING TO LEARN
AUTUMN 2
I HAVE ACHIEVED THIS BY…
 Estimate the gradient of a curve
 Find the derived functions for f(x)
 Calculate the gradient function dy/dx for simple functions
 Find second order differentials and the equation of the tangent
 Integrating expressions
 Finding the equation of a curve in the form f(x) and f’(x) and a point
on a line
SKILLS THIS WILL HELP ME TO USE & DEVELOP
I HAVE SHOWN THESE SKILLS BY…
 Knowing the rule for differentiating
 Using substitution to calculate the gradient at any point on a curve
 Being able to explain whether it is a maximum or minimum point
 Find the equation of a tangent at a given point using
y – y1 = m(x-x1)
 I can check to see if it is a maximum or minimum point using the
second derivative test
HOW I’LL KNOW HOW WELL I’M DOING
 I can recall how to differentiate and integrate
 I will regularly check my answers throughout every lesson
 I will read and respond to teacher feedback
 I will be sitting full Pure Core 1 mock paper in December

 Use box plots to compare distributions
 Use histograms to compare distributions
 Identify outliers
 Understand the use of the addition and multiplication rule
 Use Venn Diagrams
 Calculate independent and mutually exclusive events
SKILLS THIS WILL HELP ME TO USE & DEVELOP
I HAVE SHOWN THESE SKILLS BY…
 I can interpret results with IQR, variance and standard deviation
 I can recall and use the formulae for standard deviation and mean
 I know when to use the addition rule and the multiplication rule
 I know different methods to interpret data
HOW I’LL KNOW HOW WELL I’M DOING
 I know the difference between independent and mutually exclusive events
 I will check my answers regularly and self mark
 I will read and respond to teacher feedback
 I will read and respond to feedback given to me in my homeworks
