He/she will work closely with their Mid Yorkshire and Leeds colleagues to support a robust acute
oncology service at MYHT.
The post holder will be supported by visiting clinical oncology colleagues to MYHT and by local
medical oncology colleagues, with mentorship provided from a senior member of the team within
the department.
The gastrointestinal cancer practice is currently expanding and is supported by this postholder, Dr
Kamposorias (lead for upper gastrointestinal cancers) and the speciality doctors. Visiting clinical
oncology services are provided from Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.

** SPA: The Trust, in line with the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, accepts that 1.5 SPA reflects the
minimum time required to meet the needs of core consultant roles and revalidation; the Trust thus
describes this essential time as “Core SPA”, and will be offered to all consultants. Additionally agreed
activities are described as “Additional SPA” which will be reviewed through job planning and time
allocated against activities with a measurable outcome directly linked to agreed objectives.
*On Call PA allocation is currently constructed as a “consultant of the week” model shared
amongst 6 consultants. During that week clinic sizes are reduced or cancelled or provided by a
colleague to facilitate a ward round and board round each day on the inpatient unit. It is assessed
that during that week the consultant will be on site for on average two additional hours each day
during the week and do a ward round on Saturday and Sunday. On call is currently assessed as
1.5PA per week with an availability supplement of 5%.
The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the delivery of acute oncology services and work
with the research team to support clinical trials work in Lower GI and Breast oncology at Mid
Yorkshire; and lead on NPSA and NICE guidance implementation and audit for Lower GI oncology
at Mid Yorkshire.
ABOUT THE TRUST
We provide community, acute (hospital-based treatment) and specialist health services to around
half a million people living in the Wakefield and North Kirklees areas. We also treat patients who
choose to use our services from surrounding areas, including South Leeds, North Yorkshire,
Barnsley and Doncaster.
Since it was established in April 2002, our Trust has provided mainly hospital services. In 2010,
our Trust also started providing community therapy services and intermediate care services. These
services provide short-term specialist care to people who have been discharged from hospital but
need extra support, care and rehabilitation before they go home or to the place where they
normally live.
In April 2011, our Trust expanded to provide community health services for the Wakefield district
to include Adult Community Nursing and Children’s and Families’ Health Services to become a
new integrated care organisation for local people.
Our Trust completed a major hospital development programme in March 2011, which involved
opening new, state-of-the-art hospitals in Wakefield (Pinderfields) and Pontefract. Alongside the
excellent modern hospital in Dewsbury, these fantastic new buildings are helping to transform local
patient care.
We have an annual income of more than £440 million and employ more than 8,500 staff. The vast
majority of our income comes from our local Primary Care Trusts, NHS Wakefield District and NHS
Kirklees, which are part of the Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield Cluster Partnership.
